Fall Favorites

…or, as people here would say, ‘autumn favourites.’

Somewhere between the end of August and early September, the weather changed drastically. I remember feeling the intense heat for 3 days, and I thought my sundresses and shorts could stay a little bit longer before they went into the vacuum bag, to be stored for the next 6 months. In those humid and hot days, people here were ranting, “Enough with this heat! It’s too much. Give me cold autumn days, I want my pumpkin spice latte.” And I was thinking, ‘What? No. NO. I want this hot weather to stay longer, as long as possible.’ But at the end of those blissful 3 days, the temperature plummeted overnight, and I woke up the next day to a crisp, cold morning.

The meteorological autumn started on the first of this month, and I could really feel the cold creeping in my bones since then. Today, the 22nd of September, marks the start of the astronomical autumn (confused yet?). I’ve taken out my fluffyΒ slippers, started turning on the heating at night and wearing my warm clothes. And as much as I’m missing those summer days, I have my own favorite things about fall, which makes these cold days more bearable (that being said, I still fear for my wellbeing during the winter. Such a tropical kid).

So here are some of my favorite things about fall:

  • Snuggling in bed with a cozy sweater, hot tea, and a book
  • Hot apple cider
  • Bonfire night
  • The fall foliage, with the shades of red, orange, yellow, and brown
  • The sound of dry leaves crushing under my boots (it’s oddly satisfying)
  • Misty mornings and crisp air
  • Watching Gilmore Girls and getting all the feels – of course, I could watch it any time of the year, but Gilmore Girls has such an autumnal vibe that watching it in the fall gets all the emotions intensified (is it just me?)
  • A walk in the park – all the color palette and crisp air makes it impossible for me to put my camera down during a walk in this season
  • Mulled wine – I’m not sure when is the acceptable time to start drinking mulled wine, but as soon as the temperature drops, I’m all in
  • Christmas shopping – probably one of my favorite things to do in the world.

One thing for sure, I will take many photos in this season, perhaps more than I did in the last season.

Autumn is my favourite season and my favourite thing to do when I was still living in Leeds was eat those hot, right-out-of-the-oven, steamy chicken pie that they have at Greggs (I mean, I ate at Greggs all the time but in autumn it feels so different hahaha)….oh my…so yummy πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

And I’m also a big fan of mulled wine, we should go mulled wining some day πŸ˜‰

Oooh I love Greggs as well! Their food is always comforting, somehow, and I can well imagine eating steaming chicken pie in the cold weather would be divine.

I’d LOVE to go mulled wining with you someday, that would be fun πŸ™‚

Well I have to say that I despise Fall hahahaa.. I remember it was around Fall time when I moved to Bournemouth and I just couldn’t bear the rain and wind… being a tropical kid it made me miserable! I don’t know why but Winter was more bearable for me, maybe because I was already more settled?

I can totally understand. Starting a life in a new place is always hard enough, and miserable weather doesn’t help. Winter is my least favorite season, I don’t like the short days and the bleakness of it (and of course, the COLD). But I totally understand how your experience could affect your fondness of a season πŸ˜€

Aku juga suka autumn krn cantik dan seneng suasana menyambut Natal kerasa banget di musim ini. Tapi begitu daun2 gugur dan batang2 jadi kosong dan kering (plus udara dingin), aku juga ga menikmati autumn hahaa

And in this part of the world where I live, it’s spring!!! I love autumn just because of the colours of the leaves 🍁 and the temperature is not that cold yet. Keep warm, Dixie😘

I like the scene of autumn, it’s so nostalgic. Watching the falling leaves makes me feel poetic. I used to travel a lot in this season, because fall travel is so relaxing. The crowd start to thin out. Beautiful pictures, Dixie, thanks for bring back the memories.

Same here, fall also makes me feel poetic. I’m not really keen on traveling in fall (cold weather and shorter days compared to the summer), but less crowd is always better. Thanks for reading, glad you enjoyed it πŸ™‚

Well, I’m a hard-core fan of summer, so I find it hard to enjoy fall because I keep on complaining “it’s cold!!” although it is not that bad actually. Luckily summer in New York are longer, probably I can still wear shorts for another two weeks πŸ™‚

Ah lucky you! I’m a fan of summer as well (not a fan of the cold weather at all!), but the pretty colors of the fall foliage make it more bearable haha. Lucky you for getting to wear shorts for another 2 weeks, I’m jealous πŸ˜€
