A Walk Down Memory Lane in Winchester

I’ve written about Winchester a lot on this blog. About the bonfire night, the Christmas market, and the town itself. Winchester is one of my favorite places in England, and fortunately, it only takes a 20-minute train ride to get there from where I live.

Winchester has stolen my heart right since my very first visit 4 years ago. It was Memorial Sunday, so I got to see a march on the high street, followed by a procession at the grounds of the cathedral. It was a gorgeous autumn day. The air was crisp and cold, and the yellow autumn foliage against the clear blue sky granted me the opportunity to take many stunning shots almost effortlessly.

I remember walking up St. Giles Hill, and gasping as I saw the view of the town from above. The tower of the Guildhall, the cathedral, and the castle grounds surrounded by yellowing trees painted a majestic view of the town. The hill was quiet, save for a few murmurs by fellow tourists, and I felt a complete bliss. To this day, it’s still one of my favorite spots in Winchester.

I also remember walking along the river and thinking, what a perfect day it was. The sun was shining, making the river look sparkling. We walked a lot that day, strolling through the small, cobblestoned alleys, and stopped at the independent shops we fancied just to have a look. There was a farmer’s market nearby, with rows of fresh vegetables and the smell of delicious pies wafting in the air.

Those were 4 years ago, and even though this time we weren’t so lucky with the weather, it was still beautiful nonetheless.

I’ve been to Winchester many times since that first visit, and still, going there again in the fall brought back a nostalgic feeling. Winchester first caught my heart in November, and coming here again around the same time 4 years later felt somehow… surreal. These photos were taken last week, but if you’d like to see the photos of Winchester from 4 years ago, you can see it here.

Iya, masih keliatan sisa2 bangunan tuanya. Dulu Winchester ini pernah jadi ibukota Inggris.
