Last weekend I went to Jogja again after 4 years (wow, has it been that long?). Since it was a long weekend, the traffic was quite bad and everywhere was crowded, so we didn’t get to see many places. I went there to go to a friend’s wedding anyway, so sightseeing took a back seat. I’d been to Jogja before and had covered most of the must-see places, so I didn’t mind much.
We did, however, get some time to go around.
I spent the first night somewhere in Kaliurang, far away from the crowd. It took quite a chunk of my limited time to get there, but it was worth it. It was my kind of place. Peaceful, quiet, and away from the hubbub.

We went downtown, where I found all kind of interesting walls and colorful murals.

Despite knowing that it was gonna be packed, I insisted on going to Malioboro, one of the most vibrant parts of Jogja. There was an abundance of choice for souvenirs, as well as traditional dishes. It was so hot and crowded there that I couldn’t be bothered to take pictures, but I found these beautiful postcards, a few of many things I bought in Malioboro that day.

And the food. Why everything tasted so good here, I have no idea.

There was an evening when my friend took me to a bar, located in the same complex with Greenhost hotel. It recently rose to prominence thanks to the boom of AADC 2 movie, but I gotta say the place was really cool. The store on the ground floor, Genetika, was closed when we were there, and I didn’t have the chance to go back to check it. Another time!

On our last day, we escaped the hustle and bustle, retreating to this secluded place somewhere in Kaliurang. It was raining, so I tucked my camera safely in my bag and just spent a good hour chatting with my friends.

Before heading to the airport, I spent a blissful morning in the room, reading a new book (that I got in Big Bad Wolf book fair) before having breakfast. My room had a big window with wide sill, and now I’m obsessed with that.

And that’s it. It was a good weekend (as any weekend away from Jakarta would be), but I’m still craving for more adventures. And next time, I’ll bring my proper camera, avoid the long weekend and its insane traffic, and make the most of it.
