Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

marina 31

Everyone who’s heard of Singapore must have heard of Marina Bay Sands, most likely. Along with the Merlion, the three towers with a terrace on the roof has become Singapore’s most iconic landmark. Armed with a shopping mall, a hotel, restaurants, and a casino, this place screams nothing but luxury.

It’s not my kind of place (what can I say, I’m not luxurious), but I did put one thing here on my must-visit list, and that is Marina Bay Sands SkyPark. Touristy as it might be, it offers the best view for Singapore from above. In the daylight it’s stunning, but I think its ultimate beauty is in the night-time.

We attempted going here after a long day at Gardens by the Bay, but soon aborted the mission after seeing a long line at the ticket counter. We came back the next day, arriving before sunset to an almost-empty ticket counter. Definitely much better than the previous day. We paid SG$ 23 each, then took the elevator to the observation deck.

The first half hour was spent going around and taking pictures. The view was nothing short of amazing.

It was near dusk, and we didn’t have to wait for too long to see the sunset. It surprised me how stunning it was, since I found it hard to experience beautiful sunset in big cities. But this one was quite special.

The sky soon got dark, and things were even more beautiful then.

It’s no secret that I’ve never been really fond of big cities, and that’s the case with Singapore. But this time, from afar, I could finally appreciate the beauty of this city.

I thought we were done with Marina Bay Sands that day, but on our last night, we found ourselves walking along the river again. We ditched the plan to go home early, and just sat there at the promenade, facing the all the little lights upon as.

The place soon got packed, and we didn’t realize something was about to happen, until suddenly there was a blast of eerie music and lights from the river.

Unbeknownst to us, Wonder Full Light and Water show was just starting.

I ran to the back and watched it from a distance, while also panicking, trying to set my camera to capture the show.

Things got even more exciting when there was a blast of fire, right in front of us.

I stood there in awe, feeling the intense heat. A girl beside me muttered, “Is this safe?”

It was, don’t worry.

It truly was amazing, and we felt really lucky to get this little surprise on our very last night. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end the Singapore trip. This show, and all those little lights in the background, left me with different impression about Singapore.

Maybe a big city is not so bad, after all.

    Hello,
I have been following your journal for some time now and think that it is very interesting.
I haven’t added many comments because you need to type in an email each time to add one. I was wondering if you would like to allow comments from wordpress that you can moderate before publication or at least allow a ‘like’ button. That way one doesn’t need to register each time and you know who from the content what type of person is commenting. Keep up the good work.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I didn’t realize it was such a nuisance to comment here. I’ve fixed that, so now anyone can comment with their WordPress or fb account. Hopefully this will make it easier and more convenient. It’s a bit harder with like button because it’s not a WordPress blog (although it’s still powered by WordPress), so I can’t do anything about that.

Thanks again for the feedback :)
